The Institute of Sociology at Freie Universität Berlin conducts research on current sociological questions. An international comparison, especially of European societies and the analysis of transnationalization and Europeanization processes are the core research areas of the Institute. Since 2006, the Institute offers the English-speaking Master’s program "Sociology – European Societies". As of winter term 2024-25, the Institute will offer a German-speaking Bachelor´s program "Globale Soziologie”. The research and teaching agenda is implemented together with the Central Institutes for East European Studies, Latin American Studies, and the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies as well as through close cooperation with the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP). Job description:
The advertised position is assigned to the research unit of Macrosociology (Prof. Dr. Céline Teney). It offers the opportunity for independent research and involvement in the research activities of the department. It involves a teaching obligation which must be completed in the Master's program "Sociology - European Societies" (in English) and in the Bachelor´s program "Globale Soziologie” (in German). In addition, active cooperation in the area of study program organization and supervision of students is explicitly desired. The opportunity for own scientific qualification is granted.
Requirements:
Completed university degree in Sociology
Desirable:
- Very good knowledge of qualitative methods of Empirical Social Research
- Interest in and very good knowledge of the research field "Sociology of Europe”
- Interest and expertise in the regional area of Eastern Europe
- Very good command of the English language (teaching is made in English)
- very good command of the German language (teaching is made in German)
- Genuine interest in university teaching and mentoring of students
