For the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project (Zambia and Zimbabwe), Gruner Stucky is looking for a Resident Dam Monitoring Specialist, 100%, from 15th May 2024 to 31st December 2024, based onsite

Job Description

During the Kariba dam rehabilitation works, the safety of the dam must be ensured by periodic monitoring and real-time analysis of the data. Safety countermeasures are put in place to anticipate any risks or issues.

The main tasks are as follows:

• Monitor the behavior of the dam and implement the dam safety programs for dam operators.
• In collaboration with the Contractor, take care of the correct functioning of the various monitoring systems installed on dams. These systems include sensors for measuring factors like water level, pressure, seepage, temperature, and structural movement.
• Collect data from monitoring systems by a daily-based and analyze it to assess the dam's performance and stability. This involves interpreting data trends, identifying anomalies, and assessing potential risks.
• Based on the data analysis, assess the risk of potential issues and develop strategies for risk mitigation and emergency response, in collaboration and with the help of the Dam Safety Engineer, based in home office.
• Preparation of specific documentation related to the technical follow-up on site (e.g. Site Instructions, Weekly Reports, Monthly Reports, Monthly Meetings, etc.)
• Continuous assessment of monitoring results, managing and preparation of corresponding weekly as well as monthly reporting;
• Presentation of monitoring data and assessments to the Contractor, the Employer, the stakeholders and the Panel of Experts;
• Go onsite for visual inspections, if necessary, to identify any visible signs of damage or deterioration of the structure and/or the instruments.
• Collaboration and coordination with the Employer on site and orderly follow-ups to their technical needs;
• Working closely with other engineers and stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the dam's condition and to develop effective monitoring and maintenance strategies.
• Proactive coordination with the Technical Site Office Manager/ChiefResident Engineer (CRE) on site and with the Dam Safety Engineer, based in home office.

Qualifications

• High professional degree in civil or dam monitoring engineering (M.Sc. or higher)
• More than 10 years work experience in dam safety management in site supervision for large dams
• Extensive knowledge in dam safety management, assessments and monitoring
• Training roles for large dam projects and good experience in developing and implementing dam safety management programmes.
• High level of organizational skills and capability to meet deadlines
• Experience in client interaction
• Very good oral and written communication skills in English
• Willingness to live and work onsite
