Tech Lead Java - Trading

The Team

The trading Scrum team is responsible for building, running, and enhancing Sygnum’s trading and order management systems.

As a tech lead you will drive these efforts and lead a team dedicated to enhancing Sygnum's electronic trading infrastructure, encompassing both spot and derivatives trading. We're looking for a technically skilled and passionate leader ready to innovate in the fintech space, guiding our team towards new heights in our trading offering. This role offers collaboration with a diverse set of departments across both technology and business domains and forms an essential contribution to Sygnum's operational robustness and ongoing success in the rapidly changing crypto landscape.

The Role

As a tech lead, you are comfortable wearing two hats: tech and management.

With the technical, you will

• Lead a team of software engineers to develop and own state-of-the-art solutions
• Constantly enhance the quality and security of applications, actively managing the quality of the systems
• Actively take part in developing new features and improvements by writing and reviewing high-quality, secure code with comprehensive test coverage
• Collaborate with platform engineers to enhance CI/CD pipelines and streamline release processes
• Collaborate with SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) and solution architects to perfect application availability, resilience, and observability
• Respond to production incidents promptly and efficiently, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and restore service continuity

With the managerial, you will

• Nurture and guide software engineers through coaching and mentoring
• Enhance the team's efficiency and effectiveness by driving continuous improvement initiatives
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to plan new features and improvements
• Facilitate blameless retrospectives and post-mortems to foster a culture of learning from mistakes
• Cultivate a psychologically safe environment where every team member feels empowered to contribute meaningfully to the organization's growth

Few things that will help on the job

• Expertise in Java (17+), as well as Quarkus or Spring
• Knowledge of working with RDBMS (ideally PostgreSQL)
• Designing flexible and robust REST APIs with an API first approach
• Understanding microservices, event driven architecture and being able to implement features with focus on performance, fault tolerance and security
• Working knowledge of Docker and containerization (Kubernetes is beneficial)
• Experience of working with AWS is beneficial
• Experience with the FIX protocol is beneficial
• Basic knowledge in TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, and React is beneficial
• Prior experience with a trading platform or other front office function is preferred but not required
• Prior experience with cryptocurrencies is preferred but not needed
• Prior experience in leading an engineering team with focus on quality and delivery
• Prior experience in dealing with various stakeholders (Business users, IT Architecture, Product Owners, Business Analysts)
